Hi! My name is Kim, a professional (travel) photographer & travel blogger with a crush on Africa. Traveling the globe – 5 continents explored & 35 countries visited – introduced me to a wealth of different landscapes, wildlife, cultures, traditions, food and amazing experiences. Memories that will last a lifetime. Meet the world through my lens!

My passion for photography developed after my urge to travel the world. I travel to learn and understand the world a bit better and it has taught me the value of memories and people over things. People and cultures from all over the world inspire me and  I love to explore the beauty our life has to offer. From amazing landscapes and breathtaking sunsets to endangered wildlife and meeting people from different cultures with their own unique traditions, sounds, foods and smells! Every country has something beautiful and amazing to offer. I want to capture those magical moments as lasting memories and I love to share them with other people. Photography really is a love affair with life and my camera is the perfect instrument of expression for me! I love the experience of being behind the lens and the challenge of deciding how I want to capture a moment.

I feel very blessed that I’m able to travel several times a year and see so much beauty in the world. I hope that my images and travel photo blogs will inspire you to go out and explore the world by yourself!

Hi, this is me! Kim Paffen

I travel a lot and every country has its own beauty, but the southern and eastern part of Africa gives me that special feeling. In Africa you feel somehow more grounded and you are able to connect to nature, the people and yourself. It forces you to be in the moment, because you don’t know what the next minute will bring. Being so close to nature makes you feel alive and free! There really is something about Africa that feels like home to me and I can think about a million reasons to visit Africa but I tried to narrow it down to 5. Read all about it in my article: 5 reasons to fall in love with Africa!

In 2012 I have had the privilege of living and volunteering in a private game reserve in South Africa which was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I was happy to contribute to vital conservation within the reserve and motivated to learn more about wildlife photography, improve my photography skills and collect photos for education initiatives. I also loved spending time with the kids: playing with the little ones, paint their faces, practice a schoolplay, hear them laugh and see them smile, teach the older ones about wildlife and hear them sing from their hearts.

My visit had such a profound impact on me that I knew I wanted to go back. Africa kept calling so I went back in 2016 to volunteer again. Same continent, different country: Zimbabwe. And I fell in love all over again! The life of a volunteer is very rewarding. I love working together on higher goals and see step-by-step improvement. Watch a video of my volunteer work below.

As a wildlife enthusiast I will keep going back to Africa; for its nature, the people and my love for our beautiful – and sadly endangered – wildlife! With my wildlife images I hope to spread awareness about some critical facts some animals are facing and that it will inspire others to contribute to wildlife conservation. The fight for our wildlife has never been more important, so I hope my images can be a small reminder of lives worth saving.

A frequently asked question is what camera and lenses I use, so here is all my camera stuff. While traveling I never carry all my lenses because they simply don’t fit in my camera bag and I like to travel as light as possible. My Benro Traveller Backpack fits 4 lenses and the ones I carry depends on my travel destinations. For example: when I visit Africa for wildlife photography I always carry my 2 tele photo lenses (70-200mm and 100-400mm) and when I travel to cities like New York City I exchange the 100-400mm lens for my wide-angle lenses, like the 10-22mm for my Canon 7D and the 16-35mm 2.8L for my full-frame Canon 5D Mark IV.
